I Mr Senzo Majola, am a Masters in Commerce Student at the Graduate School of Businesses and Leadership at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.  You are invited to participate in a research project entitled Evaluating Stakeholders' Perspectives on the Implementation of the Business Retention and Expansion in Isithebe. The main aim of this research is to compile and assess stakeholders' perspectives on the implementation of the five BR&E recommendations in Isithebe.  
 
Through your participation I hope understand and 
1. Investigate your perceptions on the implementation of the five BR&E recommendations at Isithebe
2. To assess whether the implementation of the BR&E at Isithebe was successful or not

Your participant in this project is voluntary. You may refuse to participate or withdraw from the project at any time with no negative consequences.  There will be  no monetary gain from participating in this study. Confidentiality and anonymity of the records identifying you as a participants, will be maintained by the Graduate School of Business, UKZN.

Business Retention and Expansion Questionnaire
This questionnaire has been designed to help assess the perceptions held  the business community on the implementation of the five BR&E recommendations in the year 2012 at Isithebe Industrial Estate.

The questionnaire has been divided into three parts
Section A relates to your demographic details about your firm and your position in the company.
Section B is the set of seventeen statements that require your responses based on the implementation of the five BR&E recommendations
Section C contains one specific question as well as an opportunity for you to provide an open ended on the 2012 BR&E in Isithebe

The questionnaire uses a Five point Likert agree/disagree scale with a middle option. 1 is Strongly Agree (SA); 2 
Agree (A); 3 Neutral (N); 4 Disagree (A); Strongly Disagree (SD)

Recommendation 1: Skills 

Businesses struggle to find suitably qualified people locally, an action group must be set up to meet with the local FET College to establish measure to address skills shortages. The BR&E proposed exploring chances of creating a new training center to provide specific electrical training. 

1.1 A relationship between the local FET and an action group was established established to aaddress skills shortages in Isithebe.

Recommendation 2: Labour 

Because labour is a sensitive issue industrial stakeholders must first meet to discuss labour challenges they face and have consensus on issues. Further an action group should engage unions and f ind amerceable solutions. If compulsory, funds should be sourced appoint a mediator in the discussions.

Recommendation 3: Quality of life 
The BR&E survey found that there was a need for more schools, housing and amenities to entice and retain stuff. The  survey suggested that the chamber must do a market research study to learn about the need for these amenities
