Introduction

The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE), on behalf of the Victorian Government Spatial Committee (VGSC) is seeking assistance to gather information and make recommendations on a common spatial architecture for use across Victorian government departments and agencies.


The VGSC was formed as part of the Victorian Spatial Information Strategy (VSIS). The committee’s objectives include increasing the application of spatial information across Government. To do this a coordinated government approach to spatial information policy development and decision making is needed.


One of the challenges identified by the committee in the move to a coordinated approach is to change the way spatial data is accessed across departments. The committee identified that the use of varied architectures is adding to the difficulty in sharing spatial data across departments and agencies.


To tackle this challenge a spatial architecture working group has been created as part of the VGSC’s strategic plan.


Purpose

The purpose of this questionnaire is to gather intelligence on current spatial architectures that exist in each of the ten Government Departments and two agencies that have been identified as the stakeholder group to benefit from this initiative.
