What do small community/village farmers markets need to promote themselves and make the market a fun place for people to go to?

Are farmers markets really what local producers want/need, or are there other direct-to-consumer sales methods we want to promote or help farmers utilize?

What are the barriers to getting small town restaurants to buy locally grown produce, meat and dairy?
