Instruct patient/parent/guardian they must wait 20 minutes after administration of medication
Administer medication
Obtain verbal consent to administer medication from patient/parent/guardian
Determine if medication is appropriate for the patient
Check expiration date of medication
Check provider's order for medication(s) to be administered
Immediately contact a provider for any contraindications or errors noted
Obtain patient history for any previous reactions to medications.
Verify patient with dual verification
Review and give appropriate Vaccination Information Sheet (VIS) to patient/parent/guardian
Document administration of medication on EMR with expiration date and lot number.
