I am conducting this survey for a project in my English class. We are working with the thematic question, “To what extent can you understand someone?” Stereotypes and prejudices make some people uncomfortable, but we face them everyday. I have chosen to study and work with the group, People with Albinism, for my project. The survey asks you some questions to gauge a general idea of the public’s thoughts and opinions on this group. These answers will only be read by me. Your name will not be used in my project. Be as honest and open as you feel comfortable. Thank you for being a part of my project!

1 in 17,000 people have Albinism. It is a pretty rare disease compared to others. Do you know anyone who has Albinism? If yes, please elaborate.

In the United States, people with Albinism are treated fairly. However, in other parts of the world, Albino people are often discriminated against and are treated like they aren't human. What is your opinion on this?

As stated in the previous question, Albinos are treated fairly well due to the advanced medical knowledge available. Albinos in American society are often treated indifferently because people understand that Albinism is a genetic disorder. Certain places around the world are not fortunate enough to have access to such medical records. How do you think Albino people would be treated in these places?

People with Albinism are persecuted everyday in Africa for their body parts because Albino are people are so pale. There is a misconception that Albino people possess some magical power and can provide people with good fortune with the use of some black magic. The body parts are used in a potion for the magic and that's why Albino peoples' body parts are so valuable. What is your opinion on this? Did you know that any of this was happening in Africa?

Albinism is a genetic disorder that is passed down in a recessive gene through parents. However, just because your parents have it, doesn't mean you may get it. Globally, how much of the population do you think knows about Albinism and how it is a genetic disease?
