Introduction
We are UC Berkeley graduate students from the School of Information Management & Systems (SIMS) designing a tool that will allow consumers to get information about a product's social and environmental issues. This survey will help us get an insight on how people learn about such issues.
We also want to learn how to provide consumers with information on these topics in an appropriate and useful form. This survey will also help us understand what people care about, what information they need, and what format will most aid informed purchasing.
Towards that end, we are asking for your help with a volunteer anonymous survey that takes about 10 minutes. We will not collect any information that will identify you and you can exit the survey at any time. There are no risks associated with taking this survey.
Thank you!
By Social and Environmental Issues we mean (but not limited to):
- Environment (toxic emissions, pesticide use, resource depletion, ecosystem destruction, compliance with environmental regulations, public reporting, etc.)
- Women's issues (women executives, equality of wages, equality of opportunities)
- Human rights (Ties to oppressive entities)
- Sweatshop issues (fair wages, right of workers to form unions, safe working conditions, treatment of workers, etc.)
- Questionable corporate practices (corporate donations, corporate lobbying, tax payments, etc.)
- Animal rights
