Caving and Secrecy: Silently Closing the Commons
In this paper I will use publications from the National Speleological Society (NSS) and a survey of my own design to first describe how cavers use secrecy to conserve caves throughout the nation, and will then show how this prevents caves from being subjected to the tragedy of the commons by converting what could be an open access resource into a communally owned resource.
