No abstract required for this paper, but here is a paragraph from the paper.
The two previous studies are closely related to the current study being done on people's relationships with companion animals. The purpose of this study is to determine whether companion animals have positive effects on people's lives, as well as whether the extent of these positive effects is dependent upon the type of animal a person chooses to keep.
Hypothesis 1: Companion animals positively affect emotional state.
Hypothesis 2: The extent to which a person's emotional state is affected by companion animals is dependent upon the type of animal.
