Perceptions of the patriot act
I would like to study how the patriot act (and other limitations on civil liberties) have affected students' perception of freedom and how that affects their interactions with student groups at NU. The hypothesis is that students are more inclined to join certain political student groups and avoid certain groups that advocate contentious issues like college feminists or rainbow alliance, in light of these limitations by the government. The theory is that NU students are driven to success, and so that anything that gets in the way of that success [i.e. political or civil rights issues] must be avoided. I have this theory because it has been the common stereotype for Northwestern students, and I would like to challenge that assumption.
