Project Description

This survey is part of a dissertation study regarding the relationship between trust and team effectiveness in virtual teams.

Project Abstract

Virtual teams, who work together from physically separate locations, are being used to bring together the right people at the right time for a specific purpose. Previous research shows that although trust is intuitively related to perceived effectiveness, a direct relationship has been demonstrated with mixed results in the literature on traditional teams. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between trust and perceived effectiveness in virtual teams. Virtual team members at two large mid-western consulting firm will complete a virtual team trust instrument, a measure of perceived team effectiveness, and a qualitative component to gather rich data about what contributed to trust and what acted as a barrier to the development of trust in the virtual teams.
