This is the current cover of The New Yorker, which has aroused howls of protest from Obama supporters, and from Obama campaign spokespeople.

The New Yorker editor says it is obvious parody of the nature of the whisper-smear campaign against the candidate, and points out that the imagery on the cover -- including an American flag burning in the Oval Office -- is absurd on its face. Inside the magazine, a very small cover caption titles it: "The Politics of Fear," but there is no other mention of this political issue in the magazine. An article about Obama is unrelated to the smears against him.
