A “shanda for the goyim” is a derisive expression used exclusively by Jewish people. It refers to a Jewish person who, through his or her actions, has become a bad-example type of embarrassment (“shanda”) to Jewish people everywhere; more specifically, this expression refers to a person whose despicable behavior reinforces in gentiles (“goyim”) their most distasteful of stereotypes about Jews.

Some gentiles might justifiably feel that only Jews are qualified to make this particular judgment, and that it would be culturally insensitive, and generally patronizing, for a gentile to attempt it. This might be true, except under the very special circumstance that currently obtains: You are hereby absolved, by a genuine Jew, from any such concerns.
