Definition: A “shanda for the goyim” is a derisive expression used exclusively by Jewish people. It refers to a Jewish person who, through his or her actions, has become a bad-example type of embarrassment (“shanda”) to Jewish people everywhere; more specifically, this expression refers to a person whose despicable behavior reinforces in gentiles (“goyim”) their most distasteful of stereotypes about Jews.

License: Some gentiles might justifiably feel that only Jews are qualified to make this particular judgment, and that it would be culturally insensitive, and generally patronizing, for a gentile to attempt it. This might be true, except under the very special circumstance that currently obtains: You are hereby absolved, by a genuine Jew, from any such concerns.
