What is Custom URL Branding?
Every survey that you create has a unique URL (link) within our system. This link by default is hosted by us and does not have your company's brand or name in the URL itself. The Custom URL Branding option allows you to pick a URL (or use an exising domain/subdomain) for all your survey initiatives.
Does this mean that we host the data-collection?
No - The data is still collected and hosted by QuestionPro, but the URL that users will see will be under your company's name or brand.
How do I get started?
In order to get the Custom URL Branding option to work correctly YOU WILL NEED TO ADD/MODIFY your domain's DNS settings. If you are not aware of what DNS is or if you do not have access to update your DNS records, you cannot use the Custom URL Branding options. Please contact your internal IT staff or your system administrator for more information. QuestionPro Technical Support cannot help you setup DNS for your domain.
To get started :
- Step 1: Add a CNAME DNS Record to your existing domain - Eg. surveys.mycompany.com and point it to app.QuestionPro.com
-
| Host |
Type |
Value |
| surveys.mycompany.com |
CNAME |
app.QuestionPro.com |
DO NOT ADD an A-Record, You must use a CNAME Record Type
- Step 2: After adding the CNAME DNS Record, make sure that the IP Address resolves to the same IP address as app.QuestionPro.com - You can try ping surveys.mycompany.com to make sure that the address resolution is working correctly. If you did step one correctly, ping surveys.mycompany.com should resolve to one of our server cluster IP addresses.
- Step 3: When logged into your account goto :
- Login » My Surveys » My Account (Top Right Corner) » User Preferences
- Choose "Custom Domain" as the option in the drop-down list and enter in the fully qualified name for the DNS entry you created in Step 1 - Eg. surveys.mycompany.com
- Step 4: Save Your changes.
When you change your domain DNS settings, these new settings must propagate throughout the worlds DNS servers. It also means that every ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) must update thier DNS recoreds to reflect these new changes, The propagation process will take at 24 - 48 hours to complete.
What IP Address should surveys.mycompany.com resolve to?
As mentioned in Step 1 above, the DNS Record should be a CNAME record pointing to app.QuestionPro.com -- YOU SHOULD NOT DIRECTLY POINT surveys.mycompany.com TO ANY IP ADDRESS -- If you do not know what a CNAME record is, or if you are unsure about this step, please contact your IT staff. QuestionPro technical support staff cannot help you with this step (Step 1.)
What will my survey URL look like after I am done?
The survey URL will be of the form: http://surveys.mycompany.com/akira/TakeSurvey?id=1234 -- Where 1234 is the survey ID (Unique identifier for the survey)
Can I remove the "akira" and the "TakeSurvey" part from the URL?
No - This has to be there and cannot be removed.
How do I access the Custom URL Branding Options?
Go To:
- Login » My Surveys » My Account (Top Right Corner) » Multi-User Administration
- Click on the Private Branded URL link.

Can I use the SSL Option with the Custom Domain URL?
NO - The SSL Certificates are for a Domain. We have SSL Certificates for www.QuestionPro -- not your custom domain installed in our servers.
Current we do not support SSL + Custom URL Branding - This is technically not feasable.
