Workshop B: Periapical Microsurgery

* Identify the different flap designs used in surgical endodontics and describe their applications in a wide variety of clinical situations.
* Describe and detail proper soft tissue management during incising, reflecting, retracting and repositioning procedures.
* Recognize dentinal defects through a detailed microscopic evaluation of the root-end complex through LED transillumination and identify the outcomes of the procedures used in root-end resection and filling relative to removal of any radicular defects and the establishment of an apical seal of the root canal.
* Identify and describe proper positioning for both the operator and support staff in the use of the microscope during the different surgical procedures.
* Describe in detail the different bone defects the clinician can encounter and describe the nature of grafting procedures and the materials used for such, along with suture materials and contemporary advocated techniques for wound closure.
