You are being invited to take part in a research study. Before you decide, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Please ask me if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. Take time to decide whether or not you wish to take part.
 
What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of this study is to investigate how users of social media form impressions of other Facebook timeline owners.
 
Why have I been chosen?
You have been chosen as you are an active Facebook user.
 
Do I have to take part?
You can decide whether or not you want to take part. You will be given this participant information form to take away with you, and you will be given a consent form. You are free to withdraw at any time during the experiment, until your data is submitted as after this point it will not be possible to identify your data. Your data will be entirely anonymous and will not reflect anything identifiable about you.
 
What will happen to me if I take part?
You will be asked to look at a Facebook profile pages and ask to decide whether or not you would accept a friend request for each.  You will then be asked to fill in a short questionnaire with some questions about you. The study should take no more than 20 minutes of your time.
 
What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?
There are no risks to taking part. But if you feel uncomfortable at any point, you can withdraw at any time.
 
What are the possible benefits of taking part?
 
There are no intended benefits from taking part
 
 
Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?
All information collected from you will be stored, analysed and reported in compliance with the Data Protection Act (1998).
 
What will happen to the results of the research study?
The results will be used for my undergraduate dissertation and may be disseminated at academic conferences and in academic journals
