Bristol Accent Recognition Survey

Please help us to research the Bristol accent!

The School of Modern Languages (SML) at the University of Bristol (UoB) invites you to participate in our ‘Accent Recognition Survey’, which is part of our ‘Perceptual Study of Bristol English’. This research is being conducted by Katiuska Ferrer Portillo, as part of her doctoral thesis for her PhD degree.

It will take approximately 7 minutes to complete this survey. You will be asked to answer a few questions about the different accents heard within your city.

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. There are no foreseeable risks associated with this project. However, if you feel uncomfortable answering any questions, you can withdraw from the survey at any point.

Your answers to this survey will be collected via research notes, and during the course of the research they will be kept strictly confidential. Data will be stored securely on the University of Bristol file store and will be safely retained for future use.

If you have any questions about the survey or procedures, you may contact Katiuska Ferrer Portillo at the following email address: bristolian-project@bristol.ac.uk.

Thank you very much for your time and support. Your participation will contribute to the study of Bristol English, and to investigate the interface between folk’s perception and speech recognition.

If you agree to take part in this research, by completing and returning the survey your consent is implied.
