

{"id":114296,"date":"2020-11-10T08:36:07","date_gmt":"2020-11-10T16:36:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/?p=114296"},"modified":"2023-08-29T09:14:15","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T09:14:15","slug":"do-you-miss-your-customers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/do-you-miss-your-customers\/","title":{"rendered":"Do you miss your customers?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last week, I wrote briefly about our annual QuestionPro user conference XDay.\u00a0 Last night and into this morning, I had the privilege to support <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/sindhusreenath\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sindhu Sreenath<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the team at QuestionPro MENA as they put on their event for their customers.\u00a0 If you did not get the chance to attend, just like our XDay in North America, I would recommend that you take a look at the great information conveyed by our speakers and guests.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do You Miss Your Customers?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While I mentioned that my attention to our North America event distracted me from my regular updates, there was a very powerful point brought up during our panel discussion.\u00a0 As I had the opportunity to lead that discussion, I realized that I miss my customers.\u00a0 While last week I spoke about customers missing you or your company, this week I am asking it the other way around.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Someone that is in an \u201cessential business\u201d\u00a0 &#8211; a new term we\u2019ve adapted to &#8211; may not miss their customers as they still see them every day in the check-out lanes of the grocery stores and at the curbside pickup location of our favorites restaurants.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It certainly will have more relevance in a B2B context, and I can say that &#8211; without a doubt &#8211; I miss my customers.\u00a0 Sure we get to have zoom calls and still see each other on video, but as I went through my second virtual customer event, it was staring me in the face.\u00a0 There is a reality that we\u2019ll get to see them again face-to-face, but a lot can be said for that \u201cside conversation\u201d that occurs between sessions or the casual drink after the day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>LEARN ABOUT:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/b2b-panel\/\">B2B Online Panels<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>Sharing in the Experience (and the Expense)\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the things that happens with in-person meetings with my customers is that we have a shared experience.\u00a0 The same can be true under the format we used in our XDay conferences, but there was something that did not factor into these events.\u00a0 That is \u201cexpense\u201d.\u00a0 I am not saying that an outlay of investment to travel, get on site to hear the same content is necessary to put on a good event, but I will state that the shared investment &#8211; in both time and money &#8211; puts a little more on the line.\u00a0 In our case, we had strong participation from our customers and most of them stayed with us on the virtual event the entire time.\u00a0 I\u2019d like to believe that it was solely due to my presentation and discussion about QuestionPro\u2019s new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/features\/advanced-net-promoter-score.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NPS+<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> feature, there are stronger forces here.\u00a0 I believe that part of the reason we maintained strong participation is because we have a strong partnership with our clients.\u00a0 We invest in the relationship.\u00a0 It shows in the efforts at our XDay Events, in the steps we took to keep that connection even during the pandemic and &#8211; more importantly &#8211; our daily work with them, putting our customers first.\u00a0 We have a culture built around the customer.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now thinking of that original example, a grocery store.\u00a0 Will the employees there miss their customers?\u00a0 My guess would be that most would not.\u00a0 They probably would not be in a place to know every customer and may be fortunate enough to know the name of one or two of their favorite customers.\u00a0 Ultimately, they are not invested in their customers.\u00a0 Not because they are not able to get to know them all &#8211; that is not practical &#8211; but because they generally do not get the time to invest in their customers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Often it is about keeping lines short, using hours most efficiently and cutting hours if the customer count is low.\u00a0 These are all practical approaches to building a profitable business.\u00a0 However, an investment in the relationship with your customers can also build profits.\u00a0 If you think about your business &#8211; how much time do you give your employees to think about customers?\u00a0 For example, you could have each one spending fifteen minute reviewing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/cx\/closed-loop\/case-management.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Closed Loop Feedback<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and understanding where complaints originate &#8211; not just hearing the second-hand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/summary-vs-analysis\/\">summary or analysis<\/a>.\u00a0 Once a week, celebrate and recognize a customer that makes all the employees smile with their concern or the dad jokes they tell while speaking with employees.\u00a0 Having employees invest time in these activities will build a culture that will make them miss their customers &#8211; even if they don\u2019t know them by name.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Speaking of Customers<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The travel industry has been welcoming me back as a customer recently.\u00a0 In some places, they go above and beyond to show it, in others they did the minimum to restart.\u00a0 I hope you\u2019ll join me November 12<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as I speak with Travel &amp;
