There is no need to ask if it is a leap year and yet if you respond with 31,536,000, I will say that isn\u2019t the answer to my question.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For years, I would ask such questions at the beginning of strategy or ideation discussions. The intent was not to \u201cquiz\u201d everyone, rather to get the team thinking creatively or &#8211; thinking of the most overused phrase in strategy &#8211; \u201coutside the box.\u201d However, when we build out a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/cx\/why\/cx-strategy.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer experience strategy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for our clients or think about how we would assess, measure and improve various <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/customer-touchpoints\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer experience touchpoints<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it is precisely this level of thinking that will best serve our clients, their customers and ultimately their employees.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Incorporating different thinking<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the years, I have been very fortunate to work with some great clients with significant challenges to overcome. Many clients have also hired outside business strategy consultants to support these efforts. I\u2019ve always enjoyed working with these consultants as they bring a structured approach (operations people like myself enjoy structure) and a proven methodology and track record to the boardroom table. Probably a key element is that they bring a different perspective, a different way of thinking relative to what the business is likely doing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The structure will often involve a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/customer-journey-guide\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer journey map<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> built from their strategy-specific customer journey template and generally involves some sort of financial linkage analysis to justify the return on investment for the initiatives and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0the money spent on the consultants.\u00a0 One of the most important parts of the selection of these consultants is that their approach works well with your business needs &#8211; particularly important if you are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/why-is-it-so-important-to-have-customer-experience-today\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">B2B focused<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> given the individual value of each of your customers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The same is true when selecting a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/cx\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer experience software platform<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 I have read hundreds of RFPs over the years.\u00a0 You see many of the same \u201ccheck the box\u201d requirements: Do you have a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/cx\/closed-loop\/case-management.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">closed-loop customer feedback loop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?\u00a0 Do you have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/features\/sentiment-analysis.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sentiment analysis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tools for open-end comments?\u00a0 Can your dashboard prioritize initiatives for our front-line in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/help\/customer-experience\/priority-matrix.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">priority matrix<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Too often, I see these set up based on what the company currently does or gets from their current provider.\u00a0 I understand that most of these come from a procurement perspective so they can check to see if it meets the basic needs, but often it becomes the standard for measurement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I have passed on my RFPs because the QuestionPro <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/voice-of-customer.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Voice-of-the-Customer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is intended to be different from other approaches &#8211; not identical.\u00a0 For our platform to be identical to another platform means we are not offering something different &#8211; so the only basis for measurement then is the price.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Much in the same way you don\u2019t want your customers shopping solely based on price (unless you are positioning yourself as a price leader), when I see our clients shopping solely on that level, I also know that we will not be a fit because we like to think outside the box and create solutions specifically for our clients and their customers\u2019 needs, not replicate their exact program for the next three years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Riddle me this<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have not already done a search for the answer, I\u2019ll tell you now that there are twelve seconds in the year &#8211; the second of January, the second of February, the second of March\u2026.I think you get the point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you reflect on the many ways you could have answered this question, you probably first got caught up in the direct connection of \u201ctime\u201d between \u201cyears\u201d and \u201cseconds,\u201d then as soon as your mind went there, it was difficult to move away from that.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That is the same reason you should listen to the advice and consultation from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/cx\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer experience<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> experts as they think about solutions to your specific problems.
