However, with kids heading back to school (mine has been there for a few weeks already), lunchtime sandwiches are probably on the mind of more people than usual.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to an allergy, Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches are not on the lunchtime menu. \u00a0 The menu has been the same for a few years now: deli turkey, provolone cheese, and mayonnaise surrounded by bread.\u00a0 Occasionally a bakery roll or something special, but usually the basic white bread.\u00a0 The deli turkey can vary, based on the store we shop at or the time of day &#8211; I\u2019ve had plenty of late-night runs for some pre-packaged turkey where I forgot to shop for it earlier.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is nothing special about this sandwich, but there is one place where I generally know I\u2019m not allowed to compromise, that provolone cheese.\u00a0 It may not seem like the main feature of the sandwich, but it will make or break the sandwich.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m not talking about provolone versus other types of cheese; it is the brand.\u00a0 My son would rather have cheddar cheese than compromise on the quality of the provolone cheese. In his words, \u201cit makes it work.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the years, with trial and error, a little experimentation and some luck in finding the right blend we\u2019ve got a sandwich that earns the approval for everyday lunches.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Not a feedback sandwich<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I refer to the feedback sandwich, I am not talking about the \u201cgood news, bad news, good news\u201d approach to feedback. And I\u2019m not referring to the name of this glorious creation I make every school day being called \u201cFeedback Sandwich,\u201d though in some ways it was based on continuous feedback.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is about getting feedback &#8211; where it matters and on <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">all<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ingredients. It is about the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/voice-of-customer.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Voice-of-the-Customer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across the entire <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/customer-journey-map\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer journey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It is a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/cx\/why\/cx-strategy.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer experience strategy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that is related to all the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer experience touchpoints<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It makes the best use of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/cx\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer experience software platform<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to make the absolute best sandwich.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a conversation this weekend when I had an acquaintance visiting from the mainland, he asked a question about my work. Plain and simple, he asked \u201cdo these companies actually do anything with the data, or just collect the data to pretend they care?\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I had to say \u201cyes\u201d to both parts of that question because some companies just do it to collect the data &#8211; either for compliance reasons or just to give the customer the appearance that their feedback matters. I clarified that I really don\u2019t enjoy such customer experience programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I also described how some companies include a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/cx\/closed-loop\/case-management.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer feedback loop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that will respond to every detractor &#8211; even though sometimes just an automated response built into the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/cx\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CX Enterprise Software<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; to further the idea that \u201csomeone is listening\u201d.\u00a0 Even though it is a step up from doing nothing, I explained that the programs that get most of my attention are either a) complex to setup and have many moving part or b) they actually want to do something with the data beyond an operational process.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Are you hungry for a CX sandwich yet?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When someone wants to make decisions with their CX insights, with our metaphor, we can see the bread can be that transactional <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/cx\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer experience<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> survey and the customer relationship survey. The very foundation of the sandwich.\u00a0 You don\u2019t have a sandwich without them.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead, use the right tools like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/nps-plus\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">QuestionPro NPS+<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so you don\u2019t have a lot of \u201ccrust\u201d (additional questions) getting in the way of the soft bread. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then you can add things like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/features\/sentiment-analysis.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sentiment analysis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the mayonnaise. You can have a sandwich without it, but it gives it so much more flavor if you have it. \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then there is the \u201cturkey\u201d, things like closed-loop feedback, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/tools-to-help-you-analyze-social-media-chatter\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">social media analysis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/why-invest-in-customer-experience-cx\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">financial linkage analysis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 Sure, you can have a sandwich without turkey, but then it isn\u2019t a turkey sandwich.\u00a0 The program still works, but not the way Lord Sandwich intended.\u00a0 Then there are the other touchpoint measurements that can be built into the program. Like adding lettuce and tomato, some will like it, some won\u2019t.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t always make or break the sandwich, but if you aren\u2019t tending to those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/customer-touchpoints\/\">customer touchpoints<\/a> &#8211; either within the sandwich or outside of it, they can wilt and make the sandwich wrong.\u00a0 You must keep all the other touchpoints in your <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/customer-journey-guide\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer journey map<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> fresh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, there is the cheese &#8211; and as my son has said, the cheese \u201cmakes it work.\u201d\u00a0 That is my sandwich equivalent to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-dqGVbK59Sw\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outer Loop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 It almost isn\u2019t a sandwich without it.\u00a0 The outer loop complements all the other ingredients in our feedback sandwich &#8211; ensuring that all the processes in an organization are being addressed strategically, not just on a one-off basis to make the entire sandwich tasty until the last bite.\u00a0 All the ingredients matter, but you must make them all come together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While you probably expected a story like a \u201cfeedback sandwich\u201d to be more associated with something like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/workforce\/employee-experience.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Employee Experience<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this is about my CX feedback sandwich. Still, just like adding employee experience into the mix, you can add a side of chips to make it an entire meal.
