One of my friends was once on her email app &#8211; and instinctively looked for the \u201cLike\u201d button. Yes &#8211; she was looking for a like button on email. She had read an email and was so overjoyed by the contents &#8211; that she wanted to \u201clike\u201d the email. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook gave us the \u201cLike\u201d button and that has profoundly shifted our emotional response mechanism for content. We all got behind it, fundamentally because it allows us to express our emotions easily. Facebook gave 7 billion users the button that connected emotions to actions. It&#8217;s the button that has connected almost everyone in the planet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook took it a step further with their \u201cReactions\u201d &#8211; and gave us a bunch of emojis. Apple followed suit with emoji\/gesture response to iMessage and text messages. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Surveys are typically executed by researchers and statisticians. Not by marketers. That does not mean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/article\/survey-question-answer-type.html\">survey questions<\/a> have to be statistical in their data-collection model. Survey models have also evolved and we here @ QuestionPro have a few tricks that we know that customers love &#8211; when they take surveys. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I want to share some of them with you:<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Smiley Rating Questions vs. Strongly Agree \/ Disagree<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-53823 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/with-border.jpg\"alt=\"image\" width=\"657\" height=\"195\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This simple change &#8211; where you pose a statement and have folks either agree with your or not &#8211; it a classical statistical measurement technique of the degree\/strength of acquiescence to a statement. However, we don&#8217;t need to have a standard likert scale question with the words \u201cagree\u2019 and \u201cdisagree\u201d \u00a0&#8211; we can easily convert that to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/features\/smiley-face.html\">Smiley Rating Question<\/a> &#8211; where users choose between 5 emojis \u00a0that represent each of the different states. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Matrix Questions vs. Slider Scales<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-53826 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/slider_4_with-border_2.jpg\"alt=\"image\" width=\"683\" height=\"130\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In many cases &#8211; where a emotional (Happy -&gt; Not Happy) may not simply apply. For example, if you want to measure the degree to which some feature in your tool is \u201cworking\u201d or \u201cnot working\u201d &#8211; you cannot really use a smiley there &#8211; but you can indeed use a slider. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/features\/sliderscale.html\">slider scale<\/a> is a visually interactive tool that users have to move to the right spot. It\u2019s give the user an action to do &#8211; pick up the slider and move it to the spot that they feel comfortable. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Benefits of emotional vs. statistical models<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are three benefits this has :<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Increases Response Rates<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Visual feedback and indicators always <a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/how-to-increase-survey-response-rates\/\">increase response rates<\/a>. The actual increase is highly correlated and dependent on the demographics, but even for B2B Surveys &#8211; Executives are also humans who get text messages from their teenage kids &#8211; this mechanism works. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lower\u2019s Cognitive Stress<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; It\u2019s easier for respondents to choose 4 or 5 stars vs. reading the words agree and disagree. This is simple learned behavior. It also intuitively aligned with our emotions. Our emotions are not numeric. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engages and Improves Interactivity<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; We know interaction with images are much prefered by humans than numbers. We intrinsically have an easier time looking at images and media and understanding a situation than reading about it.
