

{"id":7096,"date":"2013-04-15T06:09:52","date_gmt":"2013-04-15T13:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/?p=7096"},"modified":"2023-05-05T09:03:55","modified_gmt":"2023-05-05T09:03:55","slug":"how-to-use-online-surveys-to-find-your-best-niche","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/how-to-use-online-surveys-to-find-your-best-niche\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Use Online Surveys to Find Your Best Niche"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a previous article, I showed you how to find a <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/pzzgH-1Qq\">target market<\/a> for your product or service. \u00a0Today, I&#8217;m going to show you how to use QuestionPro to segment your market and identify those powerful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/blog\/psychographic-segmentation\/\">psychographic segmentations<\/a> that will help you build a great relationship with your customers and sell more stuff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Create a customer email list<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>QuestionPro has some super-nifty customer survey tools that you can use to build a killer customer database with very little effort. \u00a0It all starts with a good customer email list.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll want to create a master market spreadsheet that includes your basic customer data; first and last name, email, top products purchased, etc. \u00a0I&#8217;d also recommend that you create a field that has some revenue ranges or designations i.e. &lt; $5, ooo annual sales, $5,000 &#8211; $10,000, etc. , sales regions, industry, etc. \u00a0This will prove to be crazy useful later on in the process.<\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of categories of knowing here:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 14px;\">What you know (from the data you have)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>What you need to know (in order to segment or target)<\/li>\n<li>What you want to know (so you can make decisions)<\/li>\n<li>What would be nice to know (so you can wow them)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It helps to make one list of items you want to know &#8212; and then categorize them as: Have, Need, Want, Nice &#8212; so that you can break out your survey questions accordingly and\u00a0strategically.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start with some profile surveys<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When I&#8217;m doing customer research, I like to run a single demographic survey. \u00a0I know that it&#8217;s more common to tack on those demographic questions at the end, but I find that I can&#8217;t have all the demographics that I want and that respondents are weary by the time they get there and they skip it. \u00a0So I run a single demographic survey to fill in the gaps between what I have in my customer database and what I need or want to know to run a marketing campaign.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve done a good job creating your spreadsheet, you&#8217;ll notice that you probably have more demographic info than you thought you did. \u00a0So now, you don&#8217;t need to ask\u00a0redundant\u00a0questions. \u00a0Just ask the demographic questions you don&#8217;t have data for.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upload your email list and run the survey<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now take your email list and run the demographic survey to the list. \u00a0Of course, a lot of folks won&#8217;t answer, that&#8217;s where the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.questionpro.com\/help\/72.html\">reminder feature<\/a> of QuestionPro comes in handy. \u00a0You can manually send reminders or have the system send automatic reminders just to the people who haven&#8217;t responded to your survey. \u00a0You&#8217;d be amazed at what a difference it makes in your response rates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upload demographic data to your master marketing spreadsheet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once you are done with that phase of the survey, upload the demographic data you&#8217;ve learned to your master marketing spreadsheet. \u00a0Another option is to upload this information into your CRM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Psyhographics are fun and useful<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now you&#8217;re ready to run a quick survey around psychographics. \u00a0Psychographics are your customers values, personality and lifestyle questions. \u00a0The best description of psychographics is that demographics give you the &#8220;who&#8221; and psychographics give you the &#8220;why&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some examples:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What are their names, ages, genders, occupations, family details?<\/li>\n<li>What are their interests, habits, hobbies, and pastimes?<\/li>\n<li>Who influences them? Religion? Politics? Strongly held beliefs?<\/li>\n<li>Where do they go for information?<\/li>\n<li>Where do they shop, eat, hang out?<\/li>\n<li>How do they dress?<\/li>\n<li>What concerns keep them up at night?<\/li>\n<li>What kind of cars do they drive?<\/li>\n<li>What is their relationship or potential relationship to you?<\/li>\n<li>What do they want from you?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Again &#8212; only pick the most important ones that will help you understand your audience and create a tight target audience.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have this information, add it to your master marketing spreadsheet or CRM.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tedious<\/b><strong>\u00a0but tremendous<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I know &#8212; this is ridiculously\u00a0tedious. \u00a0But the payoff in understanding your target market is priceless. \u00a0Now, if you have a few extra dollars to spend and you have a customer base of over 1000 people, you might consider investing in a customer panel using our MicroPanel platform. \u00a0This is a system that will automate this entire process and really bring you into conversation with your target market. \u00a0But if you&#8217;re on a limited budget, you&#8217;ll only have to invest a little
