Factors affecting the accuracy of cost estimates in South Africa

I am a BSc Honours student in Quantity Surveying at Nelson Mandela University (NMU). In partial fulfilment of my degree, I am required to conduct a research treatise on a specific topic related to the construction industry.

The purpose of my research is aimed at identifying the most critical factors that affect the accuracy of cost estimates and to consider possible strategies to eliminate inaccuracies from a professional quantity surveyors’ perspective.

The insight obtained from this study will assist quantity surveyors’ in South Africa in refining their predictive proficiencies when compiling cost estimates by considering these critical factors to ensure project success.

Please note that to participate in the study, it is required that you are a registered professional quantity surveyor (Pr.QS). All the responses to the questionnaire will be treated with strict confidentiality. An analysis will be undertaken on aggregates and neither individuals nor company names will be disclosed at any stage.

Participation in the survey is voluntary however your knowledge and experience will assist me in obtaining significant insight into the extent in which these critical factors affect the accuracy of cost estimates.
