Character Traits of Language Learners:  How Do Those of Polyglots Differ From Those of Average Learners?

1.Hello:

You are invited to participate in a detailed survey of how the character traits of average language learners compare with those of avid language learners.  Respondees are requested to answer questions first about general character traits and then about language learning habits and experience.

It should take normal language learners about 15 minutes to complete the survey, while polyglots will probably require at least 30 minutes.  The system will log you out after 15 minutes of inactivity, so please do not leave it unattended with the intention of finishing it later.  Polyglots will probably find it helpful to make a list of all the languages they have ever studied before they begin the survey.

Because some of the questions are lengthy and detailed, they may not appear fully on small, smartphone type screens, so if possible please try to take the survey on a desktop or laptop computer.

As you go through the survey, you may notice that you jump over some question numbers; this is because, based on your previous answers, they do not apply to you.

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary.  There are no foreseeable risks associated with this project.  However, if you feel uncomfortable answering any question, you may leave it blank, or even withdraw from the survey at any point.

It is very important for us to learn your opinions.  Your survey responses will be strictly confidential and data from this research will be reported only in the aggregate.  Your information will be coded and will remain completely confidential.

If you have questions about the survey or the procedures, you may contact Dr. Alexander Arguelles at +1(218)586-8718 or by email at [email protected]

Thank you very much for your time and support.  Please start with the survey now by clicking on the Next button below.
