* 1. The following list of Rabbi selection criteria has been identified as the key performance dimensions for our community. Please rank each item in order of importance to you and your family. Use values between 1 and 10, where 1 is the most valuable and 10 is the least valuable relative to the others.

The choices have been displayed in random order. Please use each value only once, so each of your answers is different from all of the others.

**Please note that this scale is not rating skills as "not important" or "very important". We are hoping for a rabbi to be competent in most, if not all, of these dimensions. We are asking you to weight these values in terms of relative importance to you.
SPEAKING AND FACILITATION SKILLS
Conducts focused, stimulating, relevant, and engaging services, sermons and educational programs (for all age groups) that grasp and hold audience attention. Reads and adapts comfortably and spontaneously to the audience to ensure continued engagement, altering the agenda or approach appropriately when it is not working. Encourages expression of differing viewpoint in a manner that promotes learning and engagement rather than divisive conflict. Keeps events focused and on-track, while achieving involvement and participation.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS
Maintains a presence in both the Jewish and non-Jewish community. Educates the community regarding issues of and promoting respect for a Jewish presence. Participates in community affairs and provides service to the community as needed and appropriate. Makes our congregational community aware of what is happening in the larger community around them, and facilitates their participation.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Develops focused, stimulating, relevant, and engaging programs for all age groups (adults, seniors, B’nai Mitzvah training, confirmation classes, holiday programs, children’s/family services …) that actively engage the audience in enjoyable and meaningful ways to promote learning about Jewish values, practices, culture, history, and our connection to Israel.
B'NAI MITZVAH
Provides supportive guidance and leadership throughout the B'nai Mitzvah process.
INTERFAITH
Supportive and committed to inclusion and integration of interfaith members.
PASTORAL COUNSELING SKILLS
Projects a non-judgmental sincerity, caring, and approachability that facilitates the sharing of confidences and concerns relating to illness, life transitional issues, and other challenges such as bereavement, pre-nuptial concerns, inter-faith relationship issues, and divorce. Contributes comforting, thought-provoking and insightful guidance to members struggling with personal, family and religious concerns.
APPROACHABLE AND ENGAGING INTERPERSONAL STYLE
Engages people easily in conversation in both one-on-one and group discussion. Conveys to others a sense of their importance, puts people at ease. Is able to connect with a broad range of personalities, life styles, age groups, and religious backgrounds.
PASTORAL VALUES AND BELIEFS
Performs without additional compensation to congregation members: visits to the ill, shiva calls, eulogies/funeral services, weddings, b'nai mitzvah, interfaith marriages (under condition of serious intent to maintain a Jewish home).
LEADERSHIP
Commands respect by conveying a strong presence and aura of moral, ethical and spiritual authority, and demonstrating the highest degrees of integrity and honesty. Takes a stand for important principles and issues even when the stand may not be popular, while displaying sensitivity to the values, needs and interests of the congregation. Exercises sound judgment in choosing which issues to address and which to ignore. Challenges members' thinking, inspires them to action and engages them to become involved in contributing to the community. Proactively seeks out members and prospective members to get them involved, and to follow up on how they are coping with life, family, and religious challenges.
POLITICAL SENSITIVITY AND ADAPTABILITY
Relates well to all age groups, and to a diverse membership. Recognizes and is sensitive to issues that are important to the congregation, and demonstrates a strong and sincere effort to address the needs of congregants. Invites and responds effectively to feedback, and adapts fluidly to meet the needs of a changing situation.
