Thanks for participating in this survey about a new iPad app for seniors. The one-page survey has just ten questions and should only take a few minutes to complete.

The app (still in the planning stage) is designed to assist and protect seniors who use computers, especially those with dementia. The app would also be helpful to seniors without dementia, but who have other age-related challenges such as reduced dexterity or poor eyesight, or are simply confused by the complexity of typical computer and online experiences. Because of age-related challenges, seniors can be frustrated using computers and, even worse, often fall victim to online predators and scams.

The app provides seniors with a simplified and controlled web experience. Through the app they communicate via typical Internet protocols (email, text messages, voice or video calls), but only to and from designated individuals. They can visit only designated websites. If desired, the app can also be set up to provide the user with additional features including emergency help calling, an address book, calendar, alarm, medicine reminders, weather information, and more. In short, it's an all-in-one computer and Internet experience within a single, simple, safe app.

A family member or other caregiver acts as the app administrator. The administrator sets up the app and is able to limit the app user to specific people with whom he or she can communicate. The administrator also specifies which websites the app user can visit, adjusts the number of features allowed, and sets each feature to the user's ability level. In addition, iPad itself can be limited to use this one app exclusively, so the entire computer and online experience is controlled through the app alone. The administrative controls give the caregiver peace of mind that the app user will be safe online and have a computer experience that's just right for his or her computer ability level.

Whether or not you know someone who might benefit from this app, we would appreciate your thoughts on this survey.
