Data and Reporting Analysis

Hello,
I am a graduate MBA/MHA student at the University of Utah conducting a survey on the use of data from practice management software and the questions that many clinics have concerning their data and operations. I am interning at a physician owned group that utilizes many different software applications for their record keeping and operations such as Centricity, Infinitt, CPU, and Chartlogic. We have realized that for years we have had an issue with collecting, simplifying, and organizing our data to know what our real time finances and operations were. For instance we did not know if reimbursement for CPT codes was changing mid-year, or how different insurance companies policy changes effected our individual practices and procedures.
I know that healthcare is increasingly more competitive and regulated and I feel that it is extremely valuable to be able to run quick analysis of different data sets to find quick answers to daily problems that may arise. I feel that having near real time charts and diagrams of clinics operations holds great value in decision making but I want to make sure that I am not just me marketing.
Our group is in the development of a platform to help us have this real time analyzing ability but we are unsure if it is a widespread problem across all healthcare clinics. In order for us to continue development we want to get your input to make sure that we nail the problem before we try and scale the idea. I would love to hear what your problems are and if you think this business intelligent idea holds any value in your specialty and clinic.
