My name is Bill Collis, and I am a PhD student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Auckland. I have both industry and teaching experience in electronics and have taken up PhD studies because I am intrigued with student learning and conceptual understandings in electronics.

This study involves research into the struggles that first year university students have with understanding electric circuits, an area of significant concern in engineering literature. You are asked to review the list of learning topics common to electrical circuits to identify what you consider the key concepts are that new learners struggle with the most. After all participants have completed this survey the results will be analysed and you will be contacted again to complete a second survey to re-rank the list of concepts.

Your participation in this research is highly appreciated as it will inform ongoing efforts to improve learning outcomes for students.
