Attitudes towards language use on social networks

I would like to invite you to participate in this undergraduate research project. You should only participate if you want to; choosing not to take part will not disadvantage you in any way. Before you decide whether you want to take part, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what your participation will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Please ask if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information.

• This research aims to investigate attitudes towards language use on social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
• The participants required are 18- 25 year old, male and female students who use social networks. You should not participate if you have never in the past had an account on any social network site.
• If you agree to participate in this study you will be required to complete a short questionnaire which will be available online.
• Full anonymity and confidentiality will be kept throughout the study and no information given will be identifiable or able to be linked back to any individual.
• Submission of a completed questionnaire (by pressing the 'submit' or 'finish' buttons) implies consent to participate, and for all data collected to be used.
• As participation is anonymous it will not be possible to withdraw your data once you have returned your questionnaire.
• The results from the research will be written up in an undergraduate dissertation.

It is up to you to decide whether to take part or not. If you decide to take part you are still free to withdraw from the study prior to submitting a completed questionnaire and without giving a reason.
