Given your experience driving the Prius, we would like to get an idea of your final impression of the Prius in comparison to your personal vehicle. For this set of attribute ratings, please consider your normal vehicle as the benchmark. Assuming that your vehicle is rated as a “3” across all categories, please rate the Prius relative to how you think it performs versus your current vehicle. When you purchase your next car in future, you may have the option to buy a “plug-in” version of that vehicle. The plug-in version could have a variety of possible specifications, but it would likely cost more because of the advanced engineering and larger battery required.

Based on your experience with the hybrid, imagine that you had a choice between a Prius that cost $23,000 and a plug-in version that cost something different. This plug-in vehicle could travel about 14 miles on all-electric power. After depleting this power, it would operate with the same efficiency of a conventional hybrid Prius. You can charge this vehicle using a standard outlet, and it takes 3 hours to fully recharge a depleted battery. This would consume about 3 kilowatt-hours of electricity.

If you had the option of only buying the conventional Prius or the plug-in version, at what difference in price from the conventional Prius do you think you would opt for the plug-in? Please indicate your likely choice at each price differential listed in the rows below.

For the next four weeks, you will exchange the traditional hybrid Prius that you have been driving for a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHV) Prius. This vehicle is similar to the gasoline-electric hybrid Prius in every respect except that it has an all-electric range of about 14 miles per full charge.

Once this charge is depleted, the vehicle operates just like a normal hybrid-electric vehicle. The PHV Prius takes about three hours to fully recharge. Please answer the following questions regarding how you expect to use the PHV Prius.
