What is LivePolls Teams Mode and the Real-Time Team Leaderboard?
LivePolls Teams Mode allows hosts to run quiz sessions where participants compete in teams. During MCQ-based quiz questions, teams are visualized using a dynamic, real-time leaderboard that updates based on accuracy and response progress—designed to maximize engagement and friendly competition.
For other quiz question types, Teams Mode still provides team-aware views and performance insights, but without a leaderboard.
Note: Teams Mode and leaderboards are not available for poll-only sessions.
Watch this video for a quick overview of LivePolls Teams Mode, including team creation, real-time leaderboards, and how teams compete during quiz sessions.
You can create teams directly from the Session Setup modal.
Add up to 10 teams per session.
Type a team name and press Enter, or
Use the + Add team button to add teams manually.
Can I edit teams after creating them?
Yes. Team names can be adjusted during session setup, and team composition can be managed once the session has started.
Can I move participants between teams?
Yes. In the host view, you can drag and drop participants from one team to another at any time during the session.
Is there a limit to how many teams I can create?
Yes. Currently, you can create a maximum of 10 teams per session.
What changes when Teams Mode is enabled during a quiz question?
When Teams Mode is enabled:
Team performance is shown directly on the question screen for supported quiz question types.
Participants see team-based progress alongside individual participation.
Hosts get a live view of how teams are performing relative to each other.
The exact experience depends on the quiz question type being used.
What is the Real-Time Team Leaderboard?
The Real-Time Team Leaderboard is a horizontal, scrollable leaderboard available for Multiple Choice (MCQ) quiz questions when Teams Mode is enabled. It displays team performance as responses are submitted, creating a live, competitive “race” experience.
How are teams ranked on the leaderboard?
For MCQ quiz questions, teams are ranked by accuracy, calculated as the percentage of correct answers.
The leaderboard automatically re-sorts every 5 seconds to reflect the latest performance.
Why does the leaderboard reorder every few seconds?
The periodic reordering:
Keeps the experience dynamic and engaging.
Avoids constant visual jitter.
Makes it easier to identify leading teams at a glance.
What happens if there are many teams?
If more teams exist than can fit on screen:
The leaderboard becomes horizontally scrollable.
Higher-performing teams are prioritized toward the left when sorting updates.
Can I view responses by team?
Yes. For Live Feed quiz question types, responses can be viewed using team-based tabs.
Switch between All teams and individual teams.
View only responses submitted by a specific team.
Focus on team-wise participation instead of a single combined list.
Team tabs act as filters only—responses are not duplicated or hidden.
How can I sort responses in Live Feed?
Live Feed responses can be sorted using the following metrics, each in ascending or descending order:
Submission time
Name
Votes
Favorites (starred responses)
Use the sort dropdown to select a metric and the arrow control to toggle sort order.
Where does sorting apply?
Sorting applies consistently within:
The All teams view
Each individual team tab
Important:
Sorting only affects the order of responses.
It does not rank teams or calculate scores.
Live Feed quiz questions do not display a leaderboard.
Are charts different in Teams Mode?
Yes. In quiz sessions with Teams Mode enabled, charts provide both individual-level and team-level performance views.
Individual Chart View
Displays all answer options.
Shows how many participants selected each option.
Highlights the correct answer for quiz questions.
Team Chart View
Each team is represented separately.
Shows which teams answered correctly.
On hover, displays vote distribution within a team.
This allows hosts to compare team performance, understand internal team splits, and analyze responses beyond a simple correct or incorrect outcome.
When should I use Teams Mode?
Teams Mode works best for:
Classroom and corporate quizzes
Workshops and training sessions
Town halls and large meetings
Icebreakers and engagement-focused events
If absolute answer secrecy is critical, consider using individual quiz mode with anonymous participants instead.
