Hub and Spokes: Imageability of the Daily Bicycle Commuter in New York City


Matthew Ides is a graduate student in the Department of Urban Affairs and Planning at Hunter College. He is conducting a study about bicycle commuters in New York City. You are being asked to participate in a study which explores how daily bicycle commuters view the city. You have been identified as a possible participant because you are a cyclist who commutes in New York City and you are over the age of 18. It is anticipated that 100 individuals will participate in this study. Participation in this study is voluntary, and refusal to participate will involve no penalty or loss of benefits to which you are entitled. The survey is 23 questions and will take less than 10 minutes to complete. No compensation will be provided for you participation in this study.


No personal identifiers can be linked to the data. All materials will be kept in a locked file cabinet in the faculty advisor’s locked office to which only the researcher and his faculty advisor have access. The data will be stored for a maximum of 6 months. After that, all materials may be destroyed. As long as the data exists it will be kept secured. The information will be used to produce a paper for a graduate research project. Only aggregate data will be reported in any reports or publications derived from this research.
