Pivot Learning Partners is reviewing our process of identifying and recruiting the strongest potential coaching pool to help school districts.

As California school districts continue to implement Common Core State Standards, Pivot is finding we need to recruit a new set of coaches to complete our work.

These coaches would have most/all of the following attributes:
• Recent teaching experience
• Ability to relate and be seen as relatable with the current cadre of teachers who would be trained and supported
• Have credibility – in subject matter, as a teacher, in CCSS
• Have deep content experience (in math, ELA and/or writing)
• Be an experienced curriculum developer
• Some level of leadership experience, such as department head
• Have an innovation focus or mindset

Many of our current coaches, those that retired as Superintendents or Assistant Superintendents, have been out of the classroom 10-40 years. Our primary mode of identification of new coaches is recommendations from our current coaches. As a result, we feel we may not be tapping into all the potential populations from whom we could draw coaches that meet the attributes listed above.

We are interested in hearing your thoughts as we look to add to our coaching pool and revamp our recruiting practices. We estimate the survey below will take less than five minutes to complete.

Thanks again for your time and support.

1. What segments of the teaching (or former teaching) population should we be trying to outreach to (e.g. former teachers, retiring teachers, teachers looking for summer work, teachers interested in PT other work, teachers interested in a career change)?

2. Of those segments, which do you think would be most likely to yield some promising candidates that fit the coach qualities we are looking for?

3. In what networks/groups do you participate or are affiliated with? Where do you or would you go to find information about potential opportunities such as this? Are there other places/groups that you know other teachers/former teachers use?

4. How else would you suggest we might be able to outreach people with the coaching attributes we are looking for?

5. Anything else we should consider as we move forward with revamping our identification and recruitment strategies?
