Do it for the gram; an exploratory study into the effects of image sharing app Instagram on users self-esteem and well-being.
 
 
You are being invited to take part in a research study. Before you decide, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Please ask me if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. Take time to decide whether or not you wish to take part.
                                
What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of this study is to explore how the use of the image sharing social media app Instagram can affect the users self-esteem and well-being.
 
Why have I been chosen?
You have been chosen to take part in this study because you are a social media and Instagram user aged 18-40.
 
Do I have to take part?
It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you decide to take part you are still free to withdraw at any time without giving a reason.
 
What will happen to me if I take part?
You will be asked to complete a short online questionnaire that will take no longer than 10 minutes. You will be asked questions regarding how many times per day you use Instagram and how often you engage with posting/responding to content within the app. You will also be asked to complete short self-esteem and well being questionnaires.
 
What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?
There are no disadvantages or risks associated with taking part in this study.
 
What are the possible benefits of taking part?
There are no direct advantages from participating in this study.
 
 Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?
All information collected from you will be stored, analysed and reported in compliance with the Data Protection Act (1998).
 
What will happen to the results of the research study?
The results of this study will be examined and used within a fourth year dissertation project. The only details that will be stated within the research is the age and gender of participants. Full anonymity of the participants will be maintained.
