My name is Juan Jose Valdivia Munoz, and I am a student of MSc Planning for Developing Countries at Newcastle University. I am writing my dissertation about how Architects and Planners’ ideas are adapted as they travel, and I would really appreciate that your company answers the questionnaire I send attached to this email. It will be an enormous help for me research process. You do not have to worry about the confidentiality of the ideas and opinions facilitated by your company, as no names of particulars or firms are permitted to be expressed in the dissertation. Moreover, whether you had any doubt or question about the process or any concern about confidentiality, you can contact my supervisor, Dr. Andrew Donaldson, who is available at [email protected] and he will solve any query. The main concept of my assignment is explained in the following paragraph.

The idea for my dissertation arises from the concept of globalisation and, as a result, how ideas travel around the world easier than they used to do. This fact involves that, on the one hand, day-to-day activities are increasingly influenced by events happening on the other side of the globe and, on the other hand, the practices and decisions of local groups can have significant global reverberations. It might be thought that these movements involve a progressive ‘death’ of culture and traditions in a country due to the influence of foreign investors. However, some examples have been checked in the first approach to the topic and they have proved that there are good projects undertaken in foreign countries. Therefore, it is more appropriate to argue that there is a lack of respect for the traditions in these areas by interventions in which economic objectives, instead of cultural ones, are the main promoter of the work carried out.
