How much structure do you want in a planner?

Just blank pages, or some kind of scheduling format

A basic structure, but plenty of room for personalization

A detailed format, based on a well-documented planning system

How important is the external appearance of your planner?

Don’t care as long as it works!

Should fit my style—I want to be pleased whenever I look at it.

I’m much more concerned with how it looks than with the details of how it works.

How much effort will you put into customizing your planner?

Not even a little. It should suit me right out of the box.

I will probably add a few accessories and/or decorations.

I intend to make the planner highly reflective of my personality and lifestyle.

How much color do you want in your planner?

Black and white is fine with me.

I would like some color elements, and I might use colored pens.

I want a lot of color in the planner and/or I plan to use color (stickers, pens, tape, etc.) either as an organizational tool or for aretistic expression.

How important are scheduling capabilities in your ideal planner?

I’m all about time management—keep a tight schedule every day.

My time schedule is just one of several things I need to keep up with in a planner.

I have little or no need for time scheduling. I want to organize or capture other aspects of my life.

Do you care if your planner is inspirational?

Seriously? Not even a consideration.

If my planner makes me feel productive—especially if it highlights accomplishment—that would be great.

I expect my planner to provide daily reminders of my aspirations, and/or encouraging quotes, images, advice.

Do you view your planner as a status symbol?

I want to spend as little as possible, and don’t care what anyone else thinks.

I’ll spend a reasonable amount to get what I want/need, and I want my planner to express my personal or professional identity. [comment box]

It’s important for me to have a name brand planner that others can recognize as expensive, trendy, or distinctive in some other way.

Do you want your planner to connect with a detailed system?

That question doesn’t even make sense to me!

I would try out a particular set of ideas if it looked interesting, but I’m not on a quest to find the perfect productivity system.

I definitely want my planner system to have a strong conceptual foundation, backed up by books, a strong community, and/or someone whose thinking I admire.

What kind of experience would you like when shopping for a planner?

Doesn’t matter at all. I am only concerned with convenience.

I will probably shop in an office supply store or a bookstore, but might order online.

I will look for a brand-specific shop, either online or brick-and-mortar.
