I. EMPLOYMENT AND HIRING PRACTICES: What characteristics would you look for in hiring campus police officers? Would you prefer the candidate possess certain skills that can be built upon or would you rather start fresh with the candidate having no experience so that bad habits do not accompany them?
   
 
 
A. Previous employment and background: Would you be more likely to hire an officer who previously worked for a department with progressive tactics and or a higher crime ratio as to a campus department?
   
 
 
 
B. Education: Would education be a determining factor as to an officer’s ability or would you focus more on prior job performance?
   
In your experience, are there trends in performance with the less educated officers, for example; are they self-starters or do they settle at minimum performance?
   
 
 
 
C. Officer Disposition: What type of disposition best fits a department that has the potential to deal with a wide variety of situations and events such as a campus police department?
   
 
 
 
II. TRAINING: How is training prioritized within your department? Is this based off minimum mandatories or to maintain a certification?
   
 
 
 
A. Continuing Education 1. Education versus Training: Is education of equal importance as training? How do you incorporate practices such as report writing, use of force reports, operation plans, etc., into training and are these disciplines based on an educational platform?
   
 
 
 
2. Annual Training: With consideration to annual training, do you think that because it’s typically done once a year that it should never be done more than once a year? What factors go into plans for training and how do you justify which training is more important than the other?
   
 
 
 
3. In-Service Training: In-Service training is to help officers become more proficient in job related activities that are preformed on a regular basis. How do you determine what training is given and do you provide training based on current events that have affected your campus or others?
   
 
 
 
B. APPLICATIONS, 1. Scenario Based: Do you feel scenario based training aids campus law enforcement and if so what type of scenarios do you incorporate?
   
 
 
 
2. Practical: With scenario based training do you see a difference in the field when officers are handling a situation, is the decision making possess any different?
