Greetings you!

This survey forms an integral part of my final Creative Project for my university studies.
It will take approximately 8 minutes to complete the questionnaire.
Stereo headphones/earphones are required!
As my study focuses on the headphone listening environment, some of the mixes won't translate properly if listened to on laptop speakers/typical point-source systems/ your home stereo.

For my Creative Project 2, one of my final units at uni for my audio course, I have chosen to investigate the application of binaural sound as an alternative to a typical stereo mix in the context of a popular electronic track.
Binaural audio is referred to as the recording and reproduction of sound at the ears. Our auditory system allows us to perceive direction and size of the sound from two fixed sources, our ears. Binaural recording and simulation is a method of imitating how our ears operate to localise the directionality of sound based on the difference in time, amplitude, frequency and amplitude of frequency as the sound enters each of our ears, allowing our brain to calculate directionality in a 360 degree sound field.

The study focuses on the different panning methods utilised on elements of the mix to create a more 'immersive' mix for the listener. Panning being how the sounds are positioned in the left and right channels to create a 'directionality.

Your survey responses will be strictly confidential and data from this research will be reported only in the aggregate for educational purposes only. Your information will be coded and will remain confidential. If you have questions at any time about the survey or the procedures, you may contact myself at the email address specified below.

Thank you very much for your time and support. Please start with the survey now by clicking on the Continue button below.

* Do you have any professional audio experience/training?

No

Have you encountered binaural audio before?

Each sound should only come out of it's respective channel.
It is important you wear headphones/earphones for this experiment, unconfigured speakers, laptop speakers and hifi-systems will not translate the binaural panning methods used effectively.

I am wearing my headphones correctly

This survey will consist of four separate mixes of the same track.
Please listen to the snippet of each mix and then provide feedback.

Please listen to the first binaural mix.

In reference to Mix 1 please answer the following.

1 2 3 4 5
How 'wide'/'surround sound' did the mix appear to be? (1- Minimal, 5- Very)
How engaging did you find the mix? (1- Minimally, 5- Very)
How much did the binaurally panned elements stand out? (1- Minimally, 5- Very)
If at all, how much did the panning methods draw more attention to the track? (1- They didn't, 5- Made the track lot more engaging)

Please include any comments related to the panning of mix 1:

Please listen to mix 2

In reference to Mix 2 please answer the following.
