Experienced cavers are more likely to keep a cave locations secret than novice cavers.
Experienced cavers pressure novice cavers to keep cave locations secret.
By keeping the cave location secret from outsiders, the Grotto essentially owns the cave.
The grotto “owns” the caves it keeps secret more than public “show caves” or sacrificial caves.
Keeping inexperienced cavers out of the cave is the primary reason for keeping secrets.
You have become more conservation oriented since joining the grotto.
You might consider keeping a cave location secret from a grotto member because he or she might reveal the location to too many other people.
You might consider keeping a cave location secret from a non grotto member because he or she might reveal the location to too many other people.
You believe that if you frequently reveal cave locations to non-grotto members with little to no caving experience, the rest of the grotto may ostracize you and stop giving you new information.
Joining a grotto has educated you on the techniques cavers use to explore conserve and protect caves.

You have participated in at least one grotto or NSS organized “cave clean up” in the past year.
You have donated money (in addition to grotto or NSS dues) in the aim conserving caves or purchasing land.
You can easily access guidebooks or other resources that would tell you about numerous more cave locations

You joined a grotto because you wanted to learn more about caves and caving technique.
You joined a grotto because you were concerned about cave conservation
If there is different reason you joined a grotto, please write it here
Why has no one ever “leaked” cave locations to the public, put them on a website for example? With thousands of grotto members across the nation, how has no one become disgruntled with their grotto and leaked information?
Have you ever become concerned that a grotto member was discussing to much information with non-members? Did you do anything about it?
Do you frequently participate in other outdoor activities? If so, what sport and why do you believe these sports are more open about there destinations?
Have you even done anything that harmed a cave? Why?
Have your views on keeping secrets changed as you became a more experience caver? How and why?
What role do landowners play in the secrecy system?
