Do you have family member or relative who runs a business? When you divide your classmates into 5 equal-sized groups according to their average academic performance, with group-1 being the top 20% and group-5 being the bottom 20%, which group would you consider your performance should fall into? Do you plan to run a business after graduation? You don't run a business because you do not have any business idea. You don't run a business because you do not have the knowledge and skill to start a business. You don't want to run a business because you do not like the stress, hard work and time commitment required. You don't want to run a business because you are not confident to be an entrepreneur. You don't want to run a business because you are afraid to lose. You don't want to run a business because you cannot find any organization or people who can help you to solve your business problems. You don't want to run a business because you worry a lot about your financial burden. You don't want to run a business because you cannot find your partner(s) or team members. What will be the best time for starting your own business? Can you name a successful entrepreneur in Hong Kong? Can you name a successful entrepreneur who is also a CUHK engineering graduate? Do you know any funding scheme (offered by government, university or any organization) that supports young entrepreneurs to start their business? Do you know any government department that offers wide range of or specific help to entrepreneurs? Do you know any department or unit inside the University that helps students to start companies? Have you attended any extra-curricular activities (such as seminar, business plan competition, workshop, gathering) that promote student entrepreneurship? Have you attended the focus group discussion held at Room 601, HSH on Nov 14 or 16? Will you join the Vice-Chancellor’s Cup business plan competition? Will you participate in the HSBC Young Entrepreneur Award? It is a business plan competition with cash award up to HK$100,000. Will you attend a sharing session given by a successful alumni entrepreneur, if it is held within 2 weeks before examination? If there is a credit-bearing (say, 3 credits) elective module that provides hands-on training on entrepreneurship, will you choose the module? Will you attend a mixer party or gathering that provides networking opportunity to the start-up companies in Hong Kong? Will you attend a mixer party/gathering at which you can make friends with BBA students who may become your future business partner? Will you openly share your business idea in a gathering inside the campus? The purpose is to recruit project team members, partners, or investors. If there is a part-time program that guides and supports you to start your own business concurrent with your university study, will you be interested to join? In other words, you continue your current study. At the same time, you will spend a number of hours every week to work on your own entrepreneurial project with guidance from the University. If there is a summer program that guides and supports you to start your own business during summer holidays, will you be interested to join? If there is a one-year full-time program that guides and supports you to start your own business immediately after graduation, will you be interested to join? In other words, you extend your stay at the university to start your business. If you can join a full-time program (similar to that mentioned in the question above) before your graduation (e.g. before final year), would you be interested to join? When you join such program, you need to suspend your study and your graduation date will be deferred accordingly. If the university is to help you to start your business, you want to have financial support at least to a level sufficient for minimal living expenses. If the university is to help you to start your business, you want to have advices on business strategies; such as marketing, finance, industry practice, legal, human resources management, … If the university is to help you to start your business, you want to have technical advice on product or service development. If the university is to help you to start your business, you want to be assigned an experienced entrepreneur from whom you can seek advice. (Mentorship program) If the university is to help you to start your business, you want to be introduced to the alumni who are also successful entrepreneurs. They may share with you their entrepreneurial experience. If the university is to help you to start your business, you want to be provided business network (to potential customers, partners or investors) relevant to the subject industry If the university is to help you to start your business, you want to be provided networking and sharing platform for students to recruit team members of common interest from Engineering Faculty or ther faculties, such as Business School. If the university is to help you to start your business, you want a rental-free office with clerical support. If the university is to help you to start your business, you want rental-free laboratory and equipment support. If the university is to help you to start your business, you want to be provided an experienced manager who will coach you during the start-up process. If the university is to help you to start your business, you want to be allowed to use the name of the university to promote your business.
