This survey will take you through 12 questions that will greatly help in my museum studies dissertation.

What is your nationality? Where do you currently reside? What is your religious background? How actively do you practice your religion? Which sites of Jewish cultural heritage in Eastern Europe have you visited? (Specifically sites that were in use (e.g. Synagogues and community halls) in pre-WWII Eastern Europe (i.e. not concentration camps, modern memorials and modern museums). Do you have a direct personal connection to any of these sites? (i.e. Have you or any of your relatives come from these communities) Was the purpose of your visit motivated by conventional tourism, or by tourism of a cultural and/or religious nature (i.e. Did you visit it as part of a search for “roots” and cultural and religious identity)? Did the site have any spiritual and/or religious significance for you or did you view it more dispassionately as one would view an art or natural history museum? Did you participate in any religious activities while you were there? (attend services, etc.) Did you get the sense that these sites were home to a still active religious community or did it seem more like it was a monument to a destroyed civilization? Do you feel that visiting these sites can help with a search for cultural and religious identity? Did you feel there was any sense of commercialism connected to the sites?
