This is exploratory research examining the nature and incidence of Women's Business Ownership in non-traditional sectors in the North East of England. The study provides an analysis of the incidence of businesses in sectors which have traditionally been dominated by men. It examines the literature and previous research in this field and attempts to find the incidence across the North East by utilising pulbic/private secor business databases, business support services, networks, webiste forums and academic intitutions. Electronic Questionnaires will be posted to those businesses which have been identified and a sample of the respondents interviewed. The findings will help test out previous research in the fields of gender, society, education, finance, policies and networks. A number of recommendations will be made following analysis with anticipated links to education and importance of role models.
