Project Description

Negative use of information technologies in the workplace

Project Abstract

Information systems literature abounds with studies about the business value and individual productivity impacts of information technologies. However, negative use of information technologies and associated negative consequences are relatively under-researched. This dissertation aims to address this gap by developing a model of cyberslacking?intentional use of information technologies for non-work related personal activities in the workplace during work hours. The model of cyberslacking will be tested using an online survey. Email, instant messaging, and computer games will be used as settings for the theoretical exposition of the model.
