What is the Net Promoter Score Calculation? The Net Promoter Score is a scoring model developed by Bain & Co. Consultant and Frederick F. Reichheld. The main purpose of calculating a Net Promoter Score for your business is to help determine the loyality of your customers, simply using the formula described below.

How the Net Promoter Score is Calculated

Detractors. Respondents are given a 0-10 scale in which they address the a question similar to "How likely are you to recommend (company/product) to your friends or colleagues?" - the answer scale is then divided into three sections according to rankings. Those who rate a 0-6 are known as Detractors.

Passives. Those respondents who rate either a 7-8 are known as passives. They are not included in the formula for calculating Net Promoter Score, for they considered "neutral" or virtually undecided..

Promoters. 9-10 are called Promoters. These are the individuals who are completely satisfied with your company and provide the largest benefit for business.

The Formula. The score is then calculated by taking the percentage of Promoters and subtracting the percentage of Detractors. The result can be anywhere between (-100) and (+100). Any score above 0 is said to be good, while an NPS of 50 or greater is excellent.
