Hi: I am contacting Engineering Managers with this questionnaire as a part of my research leading to Masters degree from University of Liverpool. The project is aimed at a no-cost model to manage products data in small/mid sized engineering firms. Other than administrative and project oriented information, products data is about capturing production and production related information like material, labour, process and equipment information. Having quick access to these information and ability to analyse historical data helps for quicker timeline and cost estimates for future projects. The no-cost model in the project is aimed through evaluation and test use of non-proprietary technologies such as XML, XHTML, Scripts, Mozilla, Linux. Your response to this questionnairre will help me qualify this attempt and lay foundation for the intended result... Do you at the present time have a manual/automated system to capture your products data? Are you happy with the way you are managing your current products data? How often do you have to access historical data about the products manufactured in your facility? If you have not implemented a computer-based product data management system, is it because of the cost involved? Do you at the present time have a computer network? Would you consider implementing a product data management system, if you are provided with a no-cost model/template? Would you encourage/support research to arrive at a no-cost model/template for product data management? Please briefly describe the products manufactured at your facility. Please add any points you think might be useful for this research. Please provide your contact information, if you wish. |
