for use in an academic research project at the University of Glasgow.
This research project will look at the place of punk music and ephemera as a viable archival collection. As a part of this research I am approaching those who have created and built the collections which will someday be the representation of punk music in archives. This exploratory mission will gather information on the types of collected works which currently exist in personal and professional digital and analogue collections.
Key questions include:-
How do we identify what is in jeopardy so that measures can be taken to conserve and preserve these important resources?
How does the collective community of those who created collections of musical ephemera feel about archival projects and how willing are they to be involved in these types of preservation projects?
Should these objects be sought out for placement in a large archive, a music specific archive or kept locally at a community level where participation from the community would be necessary and encouraged? Are these options mutually exclusive?
I give my consent to the use of data for this purpose on the understanding that:
All names and other material likely to identify individuals will be rendered anonymous.
The material will be treated as confidential and kept in secure storage at all times.
The material will be retained in secure storage for use in future academic research
The material may be used in future publications, both print and online.

Are you aware of what an archive is and does? How would you describe an archive in one sentence? Are you aware what types of objects are currently held in archives? What types of objects can you list as being held in archives? Have you considered having your band or collected ephemera and analog objects placed in an archive? If you have placed objects in an archive or music museum, what led you to decide to make the placement or not to do so? Regarding the age of materials, fragility of tape and other ephemera, are there preservation issues which you believe need addressing before the items in your collection become too damaged to save/preserve? What are they? What are you currently doing with your own analog tapes, video, ephemera and other objects to preserve them? Would you be interested in a site which had links to resources and other information relating to preservation issues? Do you think digital punk communities are being accessed? How many large punk community sites are you aware of? Are you currently aware of any online punk archive type sites?
