Online Structured Interview - Blogging

We apologize, but this survey is no longer available.

Thank you for your time.
You are invited to participate in a research project conducted through the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at the University of Northern Iowa. The following information is provided to help you made an informed decision about whether or not to participate. I am interested in studying how women communicate using the Internet, specifically through the creation and use of weblogs.

As a participant in this research, you will be asked a set of questions online, both closed- and open-ended. The questions generally relate to your blogging practices and your thoughts about blogging. This process will take approximately 30 minutes. Upon completion of the questions, the information will be transmitted via the Internet to a secure server. Information obtained during this study which could identify you will be kept strictly confidential. Neither your name nor any other personal identifier will be associated with the collected data or be used in any presentation or publication that may result from the study.

Participation in the study is completely voluntary. You are free to withdraw from participation at any time or to choose to not participate at all, and by doing so, you will not be penalized or lose any benefits to which you were otherwise entitled. There is minimal risk associated with this study. Since Internet transmissions cannot be guaranteed to be secure, the main source of risk of participation is harm associated with a breach of confidentiality during the transmission of data. You will receive no direct benefits or compensation for participating in the study.

If you have questions about the study, or desire information in the future regarding your participation or the study generally, you can contact me, Katherine Niman, at 319-222-6227, my faculty advisor, Dr. Marybeth Stalp, at the Department of Sociology, Anthropology & Criminology, University of Northern Iowa 319-273-6235. You can also contact the office of the IRB Administrator, University of Northern Iowa, at 319-273-6148, for answers to questions about rights of research participants and the participant review process.
