Digital Modelling of Existing Buildings for Hybrid Projects
According to statistics, refurbishment projects compared to new build are on the increase in the UK. The latest DTI statistical press release shows a 14.3% increase in building refurbishment (repair and maintenance) projects compared to new work which only increased by 10.9% between 2000 and 2005.
The proposed research project seeks to explore the use of digital data capture technologies such as close range photogrammetry, laser scanning as well as mixed reality (real and virtual) modelling and simulations to acquire and process information for efficient design in hybrid building settings. Hybrid settings are built environments where new structures or elements are being added to existing buildings for purposes of redevelopment, refurbishment or renewal.
