Thank you for agreeing to participate in this survey. Please complete the survey by 17 May 15.

The purpose of the study is to determine the critical success factors necessary for the information systems (IS) used to manage sponsored research activities at all levels within institutions of higher education. Critical Success Factors are the three-to-six areas that are essential for the success of a person, unit, or organization. They are the things that have to be done right and typically require the research administrator’s continual attention, support, and evaluation.

Qualified participants must be at least 18 years old, work in the area of research administration at an instruction of higher education, have at least eight years experience in the field of research administration, be familiar with both pre-award and post-award research activities, and currently use an information system to manage sponsored research.

This Delphi study consists of two to three survey rounds conducted via a web-based survey instrument called Question Pro. Each round of the survey should take less than 30 minutes to complete. The first round asks participants to develop a list of important factors necessary for the administrative management of sponsored activities at an institution of higher education. The second round asks participants to rate the factors using a Likert-scale type questionnaire to determine the strengths of the answers provided in round one. If a clear delineation cannot be determined from the second round responses, a third round will ask the participants to rank the answers from round two. Feedback will be provided to the participants after each round.

You do not need to answer every question if you feel you have already addressed the subject matter in a previous question.

Participation is voluntary and you may withdraw from this project at any time. There are no foreseeable risks associated with this project, nor are there any direct benefits to you. However, your responses may help identify the critical factors necessary for an effective sponsored research information system. You will not be paid for your participation in this study. Your responses will remain confidential. The survey results will not have any identifying connection to any of the participants. All data will be secured on password-protected media storage devices and in lockable storage cabinets. Besides the researcher, Dwayne Lehman, no one will have access to the individual responses.

The results of the study may be published. The Robert Morris University Institutional Review Board (IRB) has approved this research activity. The Human Subjects Protection Advocate of the IRB office can answer any question you have about your rights as a participant at 412-397- 6227. If you have any questions about this study, please feel free to contact Dwayne Lehman via his Robert Morris University email address: [email protected] or via phone: (412) 736-8485.
