INTRODUCTION ORIGINALLY READS:

Membership on the Des Moines Derby Dames is considered a privilege. In order to maintain that membership, athletes (skaters) and non-athletes (NSO’s, Emcees, Coaches, etc.) are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship, honesty, integrity, and respect for others, as well as abide by all WFTDA polices & rules, the Des Moines Derby Dames By-Laws, and the Des Moines Derby Dames Code of Ethics, in addition to state and federal laws.
Skater-athletes, as representatives of the Des Moines Derby Dames, are among the most visible members of the league in the community. Because of America’s fascination with sports, and those who play, a unique platform exists to be a role model, mentor, or spokesperson. The league, derby in Des Moines, and the skater-athlete all benefit from this exposure. However, this platform brings with it a set of privileges and responsibilities. Personal deportment of skater-athletes, both on and off the track, becomes public knowledge.
To this end, the Des Moines Derby Dames has adopted a standard of ethical conduct and behavioral expectations for all skater-athletes and non-athletes. Violation of this code of conduct is a significant event and calls for disciplinary action.
