What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of this study is to look at the relationship between self-esteem and academic motivation and the impact of year of university study and gender on that relationship. The relationship between self-esteem and academic motivation in University students has not been explored extensively and this study seeks to explore some factors that may influence the relationship. This is important as we know academic motivation is linked to performance (Fortier et al, 1995). This study forms part of an education experience for students on the 4th year of their psychology degree.
